September is National Recovery Month and today is Recovery Sunday here at Southwest. The RISE Ministry at Southwest exists to go beyond here to build relationships within the recovery community, to share the Gospel with those seeking recovery, their families, and to be a welcoming place for them to grow in their faith.
We have many new faces and I feel like even those who have been here for a while, will benefit from a refresher of sorts. So, I want to start today by talking about some of the reasons for Southwests involvement in the Recovery Community.
A few years back the Elders here at Southwest were discerning, through prayer and fasting where God was calling this Church to move. One of those areas was the recovery community. At that time, this church was already being the hands and feet of Jesus to several individuals who struggled with substance abuse issues but felt called to make a formal move to address the spiritual needs of the recovery community at large in Amarillo.
This decision was the catalyst that led to all recovery related events and services we have available here today. That includes the list below and much more.
- RISE Ministry
- Sunday Morning Bible Study
- Narcotics Anonymous meetings
- Nar-Anon Family Group meetings
- Celebrate Recovery
- A weekly spiritual time at Cenikor
- My Next Steps operating their intensive outpatient program from right here in the building
Each year Recovery month has a theme and this year it is, Recovery is For Everyone: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community. That means that you are a part of the process and solution. Today we will talk about what the RISE ministry is and does, what our role as individuals and the church are, and why it matters.
