A strange, but gripping, image came to me. You were living your life, but underwater. You had a thin straw in your mouth that ascended to the surface, providing you with barely enough air to survive and sustain you. You felt constantly on the verge of drowning, as did everyone around you, so you assumed that this is "just life".
Little did you know that if you followed the straw, you would find a whole atmosphere full of massive amounts of air, enough to take deep and fulfilling breathes. You would also discover that, not only do you have access to it, you can live your whole life there!
In this, my strange image, this discovery would change everything, wouldn't it? Friends, we cannot ignore our souls. We cannot stick a coffee-stirrer-sized straw into it, and deliver a sliver of of God every now and then and expect it to thrive. We need more of God.
I am not trying to be dramatic or over-the-top here. I am actually trying to be very practical, wanting you to have have simple, doable, sustainable practices that connect you to God and transform the "feel" of your life.
We have talked about unplugging, releasing, and praying. Non-negotiable - but accessible - practices that literally make room for your soul to have more of God.
And today, we talk about truth. Our Enemy is an accuser, and a liar, implanting thoughts in us that are false. If we agree with those thoughts, they can steal our life. So, we learn to reject these falsehoods with… truth.
As Paul said in 2 Corinthians 10:5, "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."
Let us learn to make truth a practice.
