Have you ever set your heart on pleasing someone?
If you have, then you know (either from common sense or experience) that you do not please another by doing what you think will please them.
You watch them closely. You ask them overtly, even. You learn what pleases them, and then you do that. For example, if my wife cleans the house in order to please me, she is really wasting her time. I don''t really care all that much about a clean house (just come visit my office). If she wants to please me, then she makes hamburgers for dinner. Why? Because that is what she has learned pleases me.
Have you ever set your heart on pleasing God?
If so, did you do what you think will please them, or did you do watch Him, and ask Him, in order to learn what actually pleases Him?
Paul said that his stated goal in life was to please God (2 Corinthians 6:9). Even Jesus said that he was not out to please himself, but please his Father who sent him (John 5:30). But how did they do it? What pleases God?
All you have to do is watch God closely in scripture, and listen carefully to what the Bible overtly says pleases God, and you can know what God''s "hamburger" is, and not waste time "cleaning the house" for Him.
You want to know what it is that pleases God? FAITH. Faith is the key to God''s heart. Did you know that you have the power to make God Himself experience exceeding joy? You do so by exerting faith.
Many do things "for God" that require no faith. We would do well to remember, "without faith it is impossible to please God".(Hebrews 11:6)
