Game Changer
We had the pleasure this week of hosting for one night a couple of young men, brothers, on their way from one place to another place. The conversation moved from the immediate adventure they were on to the subject of the more cosmic adventure they were on called life.
Inquisitive about my life, they asked about my early years of ministry, and some of the major shapers of my life from that time.
I was a youth minister, zealous and full of energy for God and people. From 20 to 28 years old, I had plans of never getting married. So at 26, when I met this energetic and beautiful lover of God and people named Carrie, this was a problem. We were very attracted to each other, highly invested in the work of God among people together, but painfully stuck with my uncertainty that I was to marry.
It was a Monday, and I was driving somewhere, and the thought occurred to me that IF I was ever to marry, I needed to know something about diamonds. As I headed to a jewelry store to look at rings, I realized that I was headed to a jewelry store to look at rings. At that moment, I heard a voice in my head say, "Marry her".
This one word, that I believe was from God, changed EVERYTHING. It was a total game changer. My whole life - how I think and feel about EVERYTHING - changed when I heeded those words.
In your Bible, there are some equally potent words from God, that if you would hear them, if you would go and figure out what they mean, and then heed them - they would change how you think and feel about everything.
They are game changers. For the better. Today we look at Matthew 9:13.
