As we continue our series entitled "Minor Characters, Major Impact", we turn our attention to the short story of one of the 42 Kings of Israel and Judah: Manasseh.
With the exception of King's Saul, David, and Solomon, all the Old Testament Kings of Israel could be called "minor characters" in the Bible. We have little about most of them. Sometimes it is a one-chapter summary, and other times it is little more than a quick obituary.
Manasseh is tucked away in the Chronicles as the 14th monarch of Judah. If he is known at all, it is because of all the kings listed that "did evil in the eyes of the Lord" - he was the worst of the worst.
His list of sins include some of the most inhuman, most anti-God, and darkest actions that anyone could take. He crossed what should have been uncrossable sacred lines between God and His people, common-sense human lines that made him even worse than the kings of godless nations around him, and even dabbled in dark arts.
So why are we talking about him today? Honestly, I cannot wait to tell you.
The story of Manasseh puts on display just how potent, powerful, and promising God's grace is.
I've heard it said that justice is "getting what you deserve", that mercy is "not getting what you deserve", and that grace is "getting what you don't deserve".
Come, friends, and learn the lesson that no matter what you have done, no matter how dark you go, and no matter how much evil has transpired in your life, God loves you, God is calling you, and God has grace for you.
It is more powerful than you think.
