Thank you for inviting me to be with you today! When I moved to Amarillo 12 years ago to partner with Central, I was thrilled to immediately know and love Southwest as a sister church! And my relationship with you as cherished brothers and sisters has multiplied and deepened ever since. The sweet fellowship (thank you, Acappella!) and shared mission of our churches is something I do not take for granted, thank you.
Two byproducts that I notice lately in the wake of our changing culture is that we humans seem to be more distracted, and we also seem to be a little more anxious. Whether it's our lives in the digital world where a family can have relationships with 3 TVs, 2 laptops, 2 iPads, and 4 smartphones; or whether it's our frenetic schedules and list of commitments that have us racing from one thing to the next... we can be a distracted people.
Secondly, while we are doing the best we can to make sense of what's going on in our changing world and even in our churches, there are still a lot of questions. Life seems more complex. Not to mention the ongoing and daily concerns about our marriages, our children, and our jobs on top of that. So, while we try to be faithful with what we can control and release to God the things we can't, it is also easy to feel anxious nowadays.
I look forward to worshiping our God with you this morning, a God who knows that his beloved children can be prone to distraction and anxiety. So today, in His wisdom and as His people, we choose to obey Him by being still, knowing that He is God. (Ps 46:10)
