Are You On A Ministry Team?

In Acts 1, Peter makes this statement about Judas: "He was one of our number and shared in this ministry."

Can this be said of you? By anyone? Are you a part of a team? One that shares in some ministry of Jesus?

As we continue reading the story of Acts, taking note of what these first followers "did" as their part of this joint operation with God, we notice something: They were almost always "they." They worked in teams.

I say "almost" because I found 2 examples of a solo-missionary at work, but over 95% of the book is stories of ministry being done, quite intentionally, in teams.

Maybe it goes back to the training of Jesus. When he sent his 12 out on missions, he paired them up. When his movement grew to 72, still, Jesus teamed them up.

Maybe it goes back even further. Again, there were some solo-missions, but even in the Old Testament, God usually provided teammates. Moses had Aaron, Elijah had Elisha, David had his Mighty Men. God forged teams out of brothers, marriages, parents and children, kings and prophets, mentors and more.

Maybe it goes all the way back to the very beginning when God said, "It is not good for man to be alone."

Are you alone? A hard fact is that suicides usually happen when a soul feels alone. I think Christ's mission in our hearts is the same. If we don't team up, we'll kill Christ's mission in our hearts. Who is your teammate? Who "goes with you" on your mission for Christ? If the answer is no one, chances are, you're not on the mission of Christ. They teamed up... we need to team up.

An easy reading plan through the exciting book of Acts is available for you in the foyer.
