Continuing What Jesus Began

Years ago, I read a book that was a study of epidemics. It defined an epidemic as anything that grew exponentially and rapidly in a given society. Things like the emergence of fashion trends, the ebb and flow of crime waves, the rise of books into bestsellers, the upswing of teenage smoking - basically any idea, product, message or behavior that spread like viruses do.

What intrigued me was the approach they took. Rather than just stand in awe and gawk at the powerful movements, they examined them to see what elements contributed to such widespread growth. It was subtitled, "How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference."

Did you know that in your Bible you have a history book that records the beginnings of an epidemic? The book of Acts records the exponential spread of a message, and the rapid growth of a group. The message is called the gospel, and the group is called the church.

Rather than just stand in awe and gawk at the powerful movement there, what if we examined to see what elements contributed to such widespread growth? I'll tell you in advance that God is there, accomplishing a plan that will not be stopped. But for whatever reason, God made His movement a joint operation. You agree that God can spread His life and goodness however He wants, right? Well, chooses to do it in partnership with people. The book of Acts proves it.

This Spring, let's study the book of Acts looking not just at what it says, but for what those first Kingdom citizens did in order to make their Kingdom mark in their time. What are the little things that make a big difference as we seek to join God in impacting the world for Christ?

What is our part in continuing what Jesus began?

Why not use this series as an excuse to read the whole book of Acts? An easy reading plan is waiting for you in the foyer.
