When teaching us to pray, the first request Jesus instructs us to make of God is this: "Let your Kingdom come, let your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven."
As we learned last week, what the Bible means by "the Kingdom" is "the rule and reign of God".
Jesus told us to pray that the rule and reign of God break out of Heaven (where it is expressed in all its glory, beauty and perfection) and break into the Earth (where it has been diluted, contaminated, and assaulted by our sin and this fallen world).
As followers of Christ, the King of this Kingdom, we labor not only in praying that prayer, but to be answers to that prayer. In other words, we labor to bring the rule and reign of God into the world for as long as we live here on it.
What does that look like? How do you participate?
There are as many answers to that as there are people in the church. We all have a place, a calling, a ministry that has our name on it. We all have a work that is ours to do, and I dare you to find it and give it a try without falling in love with it, and thereby falling a little bit more in love with God, and helping others do the same.
Today we get to hear the story of someone who found his, and the result has been breathtaking.
My prayer is that it helps expand your view of the Kingdom, but more than that, help you find your role in helping it break out from the confines of Heaven and be exerted here on a Earth just a little more.
