The Crisis of Belief
Let's say at long last, you hear God. What now? You obey. You trust... and you obey.
Simple? Yes. Easy? No. Each and every time you hear from God you will come to a point of crisis. This is the place when many decide not to follow what they have heard. Why? Because it requires faith. Faith that you heard Him, faith to adjust to it, faith that it will work out. Faith is the opposite of control and comfort. And we all like control comfort and will jump through all kinds of mental and spiritual hoops to keep them.
Imagine that I tell my son to go clean his room. He goes to his room, closes the door, spends a few hours in there, and when he returns, I ask, "Did you clean your room?"
He responds, "No, but I have been wrestling with what you said. I spent some time praying about it, looking for confirmation. I called a few friends over, and we discussed it. I really 'took off the mask' with them, sharing what you said, what it might mean, and how I might proceed. I felt really heard by them, and some of them have gotten similar instructions from their dad's and have struggled with the same things I am! Isn't that crazy? Then I decided to pull out my Bible and look up every reference for the word "clean" to really understand what it means, and did a word study on the word "go" to see how it was used in the original Greek. I've tried several times to just get started with what you told me, but I've been interrupted at every turn by different circumstances, and it makes me wonder whether I'm supposed to do it or not, y'know? Why would all these obstacles be in the way if this is what you really wanted me to do? I don't know, Dad. I'm just struggling with it."
Trust and obey. There is no other way to be happy in Jesus.
