Mythbusters: Financial Edition

The other day I was trying to think of an area of life that is NOT effected by relationships. I couldn't do it. The whole idea of relationships permeates, even if it is sometimes invisibly, every single thing we do. Just like you can assume that every human being depends on blood for their bodies to function (even though there are different types), you can also assume that every human being depends on relationships to find context for their lives (even though there are different types).

When we categorize people as introverts and extroverts, we are speaking of how people relate. Whether we are angry at or compassionate towards someone, relationship is always involved, even if it is a brief and impersonal one, or from a distance. Even the "loner" is defined by their desire for a certain type of (non-)relationship with others. Relationships are everywhere.

So, next week, we will begin a new series entitled Mythbusters: Family Edition, where we will consider commonly held beliefs about relationships. We will compare these beliefs to principles found in the Bible in efforts to either affirm them as true or confront them as false.

But this week, we are transitioning from our Loaded series on money to our Mythbusters series by taking a look at an impressive passage from Paul where he evaluates the giving of one particular church. But watch out! He may completely bust some of our invisible, unquestioned, common-sense assumptions about finances.

Turn to 2 Corinthians 8:1-7 and read along.
