Now What?
It was 21 years ago this week that I walked into the SW church for the first time to work as an intern in our student ministry. I don't remember much. My spiritual journey was more about what not to do rather than what God was actually inviting me to do. I knew how to connect with students, and I knew how to talk about sports. If you remember, I also knew how to dress up like a chicken for VBS. But looking back I realize I had no idea what to do. So I am here...in Amarillo, Texas...now what?
We have spent the entire semester looking at Jesus: how he lived, what he taught, and what the significance of his story here on earth means. Now what? Here stands a rag-tag group of followers who are invited by Jesus to take the baton and run. This group of followers had failed many times. They seem to know more about what not to do than actually how to move forward. And yet, here we stand with Jesus telling them to jump in and lead. The plan seems crazy, but we know it worked.
Today, we sit here in this space having just been reminded about resurrection. Death=Life. Now what? Do we accept it as good news and sit in a pew? Do we simply settle into making sure we don't do the wrong things? Or...do we join the story? Does this rag-tag group of followers dare to live out the love and hope of Jesus' life in a world that desperately needs us?
