All year, our seniors have been meeting weekly under the banner of a story from Numbers 14 where God told Moses to send some men to explore Canaan, which He was giving to the Israelites.
After 40 days, the 12 selected men returned and said, "The people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We can't attack those people; they are stronger than we are."
Except for two, Joshua and Caleb. They said, "The Lord will lead us into that land and will give it to us. Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of them, because we will swallow them up. The Lord is with us."
God was not pleased with the majority. Because of their lack of faith, because they used their "reason" rather than their faith, He declared that they would not enter the promised land with their children. But look at what he said about Caleb...
"Because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land." (Numbers 14:24)
To our very special and besloved senior class - Tammy, Jillian, Aubrey, Dale, Emily, Jackson, Zoe, Darian, Katelynn, Charlotte, Kathryn, Zack and Tristen - you live in an age where statistics say that most of you will leave the faith. Perhaps, just as in the book of Numbers, as many as 10 out of 12 of our nation's Seniors who are Christian will cave to the powerful sights out there, rebelling against God through disbelief and faithlessness.
Our prayer for you is to be in the minority. To be one of those few who, like Caleb, have a "different spirit," and follow God wholeheartedly. You have done well among us, and we are always here as you now go out from us.
