Buckle up, church.
We are about to walk through the last week of the life of God when He was man, and we are going to take 8 weeks to do it. To give perspective, we have spent only 12 weeks covering all of his 33 years.
Why is that, you may ask?
One reason is because we are following the Gospels, and they do this, too. For example, in the book of John, after cruising at 75 mph through the whole life of Christ, he hits the brakes hard and slows down to a crawl as he uses a whole third of his book to examine closely the events of this single week in the life of Jesus.
Make no mistake: It is for the events of this last week that He has come. All that He has done, all that He has said, all that he has experienced - everything! - it has been pointing to this one significant, tragic, and heroic week.
As even our calendars testify... the events of this week are the hinge-point of history.
And so, not surprisingly, all four gospels record the event that marks Jesus' entrance into this week, his entrance into Jerusalem as King and Sacrifice. Christianity has rightly hailed this event as "The Triumphal Entry."
It was a day of extreme anticipation and intensity. A day where God was offering Himself and His Kingdom powerfully, but humbly, as an alternative to the world's Kingdom and ways.
Despite what was to come, but also because of what was to come, it was a day of praise. And the people did.
Let us join them today, learning and utilizing the meaning of their word: Hosanna.
