What If God Wasn't Here
Have you ever thought about what would not have happened if God did not send Jesus?
No miraculous birth. No Immanuel. No God with us.
No inspired life to imitate. No example to follow. No standard lived out in front of us.
No cross. No substitute death. No ransom for our sins.
No resurrection. No hope for redemption. No hope for better. The sting of death remains. No abundance of life.
No ascension. No compassionate representative in Heaven advocating on your behalf. No Holy Spirit sent from Heaven quickening yours here on earth.
No return. No hope of victory. No hope of Heaven.
What would NOT have happened if Jesus was not sent here on God's behalf for the world would have been tragic.
Have you ever asked the question about the church? What would NOT have happened in the last year if Christ's church at Southwest was not here? What would have been undone? What evil would have reigned? What despair would have gone unaddressed? What suffering would not have been alleviated? Who would have not heard about Christ? Who would have stayed static in their faith?
Today, may we pause and thank God for the work of Jesus through his church that has been done. And may we succumb to the invitation to be plunged ever deeper into his mission, investing our lives and resources into it as if life was found in it and depended on it.
Because it does.
