Fresh Start With God

Disciple: Master, I desire a fresh start with God.

Master: Then your desire matches His.

Disciple: What must I do?

Master: Believe, repent, and be baptized.

Disciple: All of these I have done.

Master: Belief, repentance, and baptism are not one time events. What you are remembering is the first time you did each.

Disciple: What do you mean they are not one time events? Must I be baptized again each time I want a fresh start with God?

Master: Your thinking reflects a belief in a Law, rather than in a Life. Belief includes, but is not only a one time confession. It is living and active, and you fall in and out of it moment to moment because of the battle that rages around you. This is evidenced by your mood. Repentance includes, but is not only a one-time change of mind. It is a life-long and progressive aligning of your life with God's will for you. Your felt need for a fresh start is God's prompting that this has stopped or stalled. Baptism includes, but is not only being plunged into water once. It initiates a life of being plunged more and more deeply into Christ every day.

Disciple: So, to get a fresh start with God, I do again what I did at first?

Master: Your God is new every morning, but He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Yes, child.
