Malachi's Buden
We begin a 5 week series today based on an ancient oracle delivered to the people of God during a time when they were wondering if God was with them.
Can you relate?
Have you ever wondered if God was with you?
Wondered if God cared?
Wondered if God loved you?
You wouldn't be alone. Doubt is not scary to God. Your doubt does not threaten Him, reality, objective truth, or His love. God can work with people who doubt His love.
It is the doubter who suffers when they doubt God's love, not God. This is why He addresses doubt. This is why He cares about it at all. He loves you far too much to allow you the insecure, uncertain, unstable, fear-full life that comes when you doubt His love.
It is true now. And it was true then, when Malachi spoke.
As God's treasured possession, He reminds His people that He most certainly does love them. And He's got proof. The problem is, lost in the discomfort of difficult circumstances, they don't like His proof. They (and we) would rather dictate to Him just how He should prove it. We doubt His love because of what He has not done.
God, on the flip side, who owes us absolutely nothing, reminds us that His steadfast love can leave you undoubting because of what He has done.
In the words of Jesus to Thomas: "Stop doubting and believe!"
