Disciple: Lord, prove your claims beyond all doubts!
Master: There is only one way for your doubts to be removed. You must have faith.
Disciple: What is it you mean by faith?
Master: I have told you there is one God. Faith in this would be to act in confidence as if this was true in all things. I have told you that this God loves you. Faith in this would be to interpret all events underneath this banner without question. I have told you that your sins are forgiven with absolute certainty. Faith would be to allow this statement to penetrate your entire worldview without question.
Disciple: It would be so much easier to have faith in these great things if you would prove your claims with scientific or philosophical certainty.
Master: It most certainly would not. God has, in fact, created all things in a way that it all points to Him (Romans 1:20), with no other answer or theory possible without holes. Yet it remains that those beyond doubts are those who have faith.
Disciple: I am tortured by my doubts!
Master: And yet I am not disturbed by them at all. Your doubts have no more power over my grace for you than your sins do. Do not be afraid. The work of God is merely this: to have faith in me and my message (John 6:29).
He who has ears, hear this: the more faith you practice, the more faith you will have.
