Climbing Together

It wasn't that many years ago that I used to take students on Wilderness Trek. We would make the drive to Colorado and attempt to hike one of the beautiful 14,000ft mountains. Each year was different but there were certainly commonalities on these hikes. It was inevitable that we would have multiple people struggle. The first hike generally took us all day with backpacks that weighed up to 60 pounds. While a few were out in front having a great time there were always some in the back who wanted to stop every five minutes.

What was interesting to me is how the trip progressed. This was not always a situation where the athletic kids were in the front while the others struggled. You just never knew who was going to need help. Sometimes it was the strongest kid who got altitude sickness. Sometimes it was an intern who was supposed to be helping others. The reality was, we all needed help at different times. Each person was valuable to the expedition!

Have we forgotten that we are the Body of Christ? Have we forgotten that all are significant in this journey? Have we forgotten how much we need each generation and each individual to play their role in order to create faith that sticks!
