There may be no single facet of the life that Jesus lived that has impacted me personally as much as his prayer life.
The very fact that Jesus prayed at all should challenge the sincere follower of Jesus to take this area of life very seriously. After all, if Jesus Christ depended on prayer in his life, how much more should we?
Luke says that Jesus "often withdrew to lonely places to pray" (Luke 5:16). If you don't, then should you complain about not feeling connected to God?
Jesus connected to God before big decisions in his life. Luke says that he actually prayed all night long before he selected the Twelve Apostles (Luke 6:12). When was the last time you connected to God to be influenced about any decision? If you don't, can you blame Him when things don't go well?
After a full day of intense ministry output, Mark says that instead of sleeping in, Jesus gets up and spends time with God (Mark 1:35). It is as if prayer is more refreshing to Jesus than sleep. Do you gladly miss sleep, but always make sure you pray? If it is reversed (or you miss both!), can you blame God when you are frazzled, frantic, and fuming?
Being with God - just saying the words sounds right, grand, peaceful, important.
Today, we do not gather to learn about prayer from Jesus. Today, we will use the prayer life of Jesus as a prayer guide.
Shall we pray?
