Words matter. Pause and think about it.
The first book of the Bible, a history book, says that it was with words that God facilitated creation. In the last book of the Bible, a prophetic book, it warns that if anyone dare add to or take away from the words in it, they would suffer plagues and worse, they would lose their eternal inheritance. Jesus Christ himself, God Himself incarnated into flesh, was identified by John as "The Word". And when Jesus spoke, he said that they were much more than an expression of the spirit or a means to life - he said the WORDS THEMSELVES were spirit and life. Why are words so important?
Words reveal. Jesus says that "out of the overflow of his heart, a man speaks." He says the good heart speaks good things, the bad heart speaks bad. What do your words reveal about your heart?
Words create. The Proverbs say that depending on what words you choose, you create life and healing, or death and destruction. Look at the faces of those around you when they leave your presence, especially those closest to you. Which of your words create which?
Why would Paul say to not let any unwholesome talk come out of our mouths? (Eph 4:29) Or that we should rid ourselves of all filthy language? (Col 3:8) Or that even coarse joking is improper for God's people? (Eph 5:4) Why did Jesus himself say that our words would be a measuring stick for whether we are pardoned or condemned? (Mt 12:37)
Because...words matter. Your words matter.
