Treasures In Heaven

Imagine you are sitting with an extra $50 in your pocket. Before you at Wal-Mart lies the possibility of a new video game for your kid's PS3, or 5 movies on sale for $10 each, or bags full of luxury foods that you don't need and barely contain any nutritional value, or some new decorations to add to the wall of your house, or another pair of shoes to put in your closet to choose from each morning, or a hundred thousand different things.

Will any of them impact eternity?

The Master asks, "Can moth destroy what you spend that $50 on? Can rust ruin it? Could a thief break in and steal it? Why invest in those things?" He follows with wisdom so simple, advice so unarguable, and instructions so followable: "Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out. Store up treasures in heaven." (Mt 6:20; Lk 12:33)

Elsewhere, Jesus explains that a follower of his ascribes more worth to the treasure of heaven then all earthly treasures combined, and would eagerly sell all his earthly possessions to buy it. (Mt 13:44)

What treasures could I use that $50 for that will be stored in heaven? How do we provided purses for ourselves that we can enjoy even in eternity?

In this series, we've noted that the Bible distinguishes between your tithe (the giving of the first 10% of your income to God's church) and offerings (anything you give to anyone in Christ's name beyond that). Today, we will show you what kinds of treasures your tithes have invested in, will invest in, and some dreams that we'd like to invest in.
