You are longing for life.
That is what all your issues are ultimately about. You want life. You want life at its best. You want it in abundance. You want life to the full.
Everything you have ever done, healthy or unhealthy, wholesome or sinful, is explained by this universal human longing - the longing for life.
And yet... no matter how much we try, no matter what we try, no matter what level of success we attain in our trying... we are left wanting. Why?
Two reasons: (1) we are trying to satisfy our longing in this world, by this world, thinking we need the temporary stuff to "work out," and (2) we are trying to make it happen by our efforts.
Listen closely: God has given you the longing for life, not so that you will attain it by your efforts in this world, but so that you will receive it from Him as a gift in the next.
Paul made the statement, "I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection." (Phil 3:10) What exactly is the power of Christ's resurrection? What exactly did Paul want to know?
It was life. Life eternal. Life to the full. Christ's death tells us we are forgiven. Christ's resurrection tells us that we will have what our hearts long for. And we will have it as a gift from God, or not at all.
That is very, very, very, very good news.
