Today, our elder, Jerry Morgan, will be talking with us very practically, answering the commonly asked question of "how do we talk about spiritual things with people?"
In our society, it seems to me that Christians have largely become shy. We think that people will be offended if we bring up eternal subjects, or that they will judge us as being pushy, or that we don't know all the answers to every question that might arise. These things keep us talking about easier, but much less important things.
Let me challenge you with a few underlying realities that might help.
Firstly, have you noticed that we talk about what we value? It's not hard to talk about your children, or your hobbies, or other things that you love. Value God and His things in your heart and you will talk about God and His things more naturally.
Secondly, we talk to the people we value. We pass dozens of people a day who might as well be invisible. We have to make a conscious decision before God to value people who do not know Christ or we will never speak with them at all, let alone about the important things.
Finally, we talk about what we think about. If you watch sports, it's hard to keep you from talking about it. Do you have anything to say about your job? Your favorite TV show? Your school? Invest some time thinking about spiritual things and it will come more natural to talk about those things.
May God bless our conversations with Him as our subject.
