Commissioned To Go Public

It's that time in America where teams of people rally around a single person who embodies some school of thought on how to run our country from the highest position in the land. It's election time.

Led by that person, the team is commissioned to unveil the candidate's platform, plan, and ideas, enlisting as many people as they can to join the cause and proactively influence others to join, too.

And people do. And people don't. The one's that do, do it because they believe it matters.

Christ gave a commission. It was a commission to unveil God's plan, God's ideas, and God's platform. A commission to his followers to go public in order to get much more than a vote - to get lives. Hearts. Souls.

Some of his followers do. Some of his followers don't. The ones that do are the ones who believe that it matters.

An elder got up one time to honor a minister I knew. He said, "One of the special things about this guy is that he believes that what we are doing is a matter of life and death. And you can tell by the way he lives in the world."

It struck me. This is a special thing? Should this not be so for all ministers? Should this not be par for the course for anyone who claims Christ? Is this not the very definition of a Christian?

If Christ's commission is not noticeably being carried out in our lives, can we really say that it matters to us?
