No Spin Zone

You may have heard that term used on a popular political television show. But is there really such a thing? A spin zone is a place where "spin doctors" try to put a spin on unwanted truth in order to make it sound like something that is not so bad. But the truth is a spin doctor is not telling the whole truth and if it isn't the whole truth, then it is a lie.

Paul says "do not lie to each other." That command is hard to follow in a culture where spin is the norm.

The gospels record 78 times in which Jesus said "I tell you the truth." Jesus said "I am the truth." Jesus was absolutely truthful. He was gentle, loving, graceful, but also totally truthful. In fact, scripture says that he was "full of grace and truth."

As a Christ follower, am I a truthful person? Am I truthful to others, always? Am I totally truthful to my children and spouse? Am I truthful to my employer? Am I excused from being truthful to the government (i.e. IRS)? Am I truthful to myself or do I live in self-deception? And most importantly, am I truthful to God?

Do you realize that you have been set free from the need to lie? Do you believe that there is more abundant life in being open and honest?
"Do not lie." Sounds simple; let's try it.
