Colossians 3:1-17 is a treasure trove of practical behaviors that Paul says a Christian should embody.
These verses read as if Paul was saying, "Look guys, I've written to you all about who Christ is and what he has done for you in the first 2 chapters, so now it is time for you to own and practice the behaviors that someone who believes would naturally do."
Within this passage are ten specific instructions:
Set your mind & heart on things above
Put to death your earthly nature
Rid yourselves of all forms of violence
Do not lie
Clothe yourselves with all forms of mercy
Forgive everything
Put on love (this is chief, he says)
Be a person of peaceful gratitude
Let the word dwell in and flow from you
Do everything you do in light of Jesus
We will spend the rest of the summer on this text, looking at these ten big appeals of Paul.
Pray for God's help this summer. Let the summer of 2012 be a benchmark season that you look back on when you conformed your life, powerfully and practically, to Christ's life.
All you have to be is willing.
