Not all of you know Gilda Carver. As I write, she is lying on her death bed with her husband of over 60 years by her side.
I went by to be with and encourage them the other day.
I walked in to her room and before I could say a word, she perked right up and said, "Hi, Brian! Oh, I feel so good! I'm so comfortable and at peace. I've had such a good life, surrounded by so much love, and I still am! God is here and I'm so excited to be with Him."
I'll never forget her.
She was embodying an excitement, eagerness and FEARLESSNESS that I know and teach is available to any and all believers in Christ. But still, I was moved to tears seeing it expressed on a death bed.
With no fear, she spoke with certainty that she was walking through death, not into it. She said, "Goodbye, Brian. I may not see you again here, but I'll see you soon. I'm so excited."
From this perspective King David penned the words, "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me" (Ps 23:4)
