Have you ever heard the 23rd Psalm referred to as the John 3:16 of the Old Testament? It is one of the most well-known, most memorized, and most used scriptures in the whole Bible.
There is a good reason for that. It is beautiful. It is comforting. It is powerful. Some part of it seems to address every single circumstance that a human life can encounter.
So here is a good question: Do you know it?
But here is a better question: Could you have written it?
Today we will begin a series meditating on this incredible poem (though they are just words, inspired as they were), written by an incredible man (though he was just a man, inspired as he was), who knew and experienced our incredible God (the Source and Point of the inspiration).
We will go through it slowly. My prayer is that its claims flare up in you an intense desire to know and experience the God that David knew. My hope is that your need for such a thing in your life as is described by Psalm 23 tempts you to abandon all other things in order to be able to proudly, accurately, and thankfully say the opening words...
"The Lord is my shepherd."
