John 3:16 is one of the most recognizable, most memorized, and most familiar verses of all time in all the Bible.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
And it is precisely because of our familiarity with it that we need to slow down and take in its grandeur. (Be honest. Did you really read the verse above, or did you skip over it once you recognized what it said?)
This verse is not for beginners. This verse is not shallow, simple and basic in its message.
On the contrary, this verse contains the loftiest themes that humanity knows: life and death, God and the world, eternity, and love - its source, its target, its cost, and its extent.
So today, we will slow down, and listen to Jesus as he speaks to Nicodemus of what to him would have been earth-shattering, life-changing, religion-altering, and unbelievably good news.
