The Devil Versus The Word

Mark 1:1 begins by saying: "Jesus began to teach by the lake."

Then Mark 1:3 says that Jesus began that teaching by saying: "A farmer went out to sow his seed."

These are, in fact, sets of words that point to each other. When Jesus teaches, he is the farmer sowing his seed. And when Jesus speaks of the farmer sowing his seed, he is speaking of himself teaching.

He goes on to expose a great and terrible battle that takes place spiritually whenever the seed is sown.

It is a bloody standoff between the Word and the Devil. And this battle takes place in your heart.

The Word fights to find a home. It is looking for a place to lodge itself so that it can grow your heart into a fruit-bearing, crop multiplying harvest.

The Devil fights to take the Word away. He is looking to keep your heart empty and useless, and he uses 3 strategies to do it.

Ironically, neither the Word or the Devil get to decide who wins their battle. You do. How? By deciding to use your "ears to hear" (and all that it implies)...or not.

Who's winning with you?
