How do you get life to cooperate with you?
Is there a way engage in living that makes you powerful, strong, invulnerably joyful and peaceful, and always able to do what is right now matter what the circumstance?
No, most people say. Even Christians. We don't get that, they say, until we arrive in the kingdom of heaven.
That's why so few even attempt the life described by Jesus in his Beatitudes.
Is this world perfect? No. Are we perfect? Of course not. But can we adopt a way of life, a way of being, that gives us access to the kingdom of heaven and its blessings now?
Yes.
Jesus says so overtly when he gives us the first step to living under this supremely blessed life in Matthew 5:3: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Did you hear that? The supreme blessings that come from the kingdom are yours if you are poor in spirit.
This morning, let's look at what that means, and pray to God to make us so.
