"And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven." (Mt 12:31)
What? There is a sin that is not forgivable?
It may be one of the most haunting, cryptic things that modern day Christians deal with that ever came out of the mouth of Jesus.
Imagine Jesus Christ, your Lord and Savior, full of grace and truth, looking at you and saying: "Listen, son. I will not forgive that."
The thought leaves us petrified.
And it leaves us with some very weighty questions. Can I know if I've committed the unforgivable sin? And if I have, then how do I go about living life? And what about other people? Can I know when someone else has committed the unforgivable sin? And If so, how do I treat them?
This morning, we'll take a closer look at what Christ calls the "blasphemy of the Holy Spirit."
Summon all of your trust in God. Bring all of your belief that ultimately, He is what He says He is: full of grace and truth. Loving you so much, that if you believe in Christ, you will not perish, but will have everlasting life.
