The God Baby

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given...and he will be called Mighty God." - Isaiah 9:4

What a leap! How did Isaiah make it? He goes from "look, here is our baby" to "and by the way, he's God."

Centuries later, how did Thomas make it? Isn't that man Jesus the carpenter? From Nazareth, no less (what good comes from there?). Yet Thomas looks this human being and is convinced enough to say, "My Lord and my God!" (Jn 20:26)

Now, millennia later, I find myself making the same leap.

I explain in a recent blog (www.brianmashburn.net) that even if Jesus wasn't God, I would still follow him. That's how much I think of him as a mere man.
But (and I go on to explain why), I don't think he is a mere man. I have become convinced of the absurd, right along with Isaiah and Thomas, that a man is God.

This is the story of Christmas. May Mighty God continue showing himself to us in the flesh.
