When David was banished from the presence of King Saul because of Saul's jealousy and unfaithfulness, many strong and mighty men choose to join with David, on the side of God, rather than with Saul.
Once some Benjamites and men from the tribe of Judah showed up at David's stronghold. It is recorded in 1 Chronicles 12:17 that "David went out to meet them and said to them, "If you have come to me in peace, to help me, I am ready to have you unite with me."
And unite with him they did. The story of David's mighty men is the stuff of Jewish legend. Even though they were undermanned and unfunded by the Kingdom's treasury, they overcome the assaults of their enemies. And it was because of two things...
They were on the side of God and they were united.
Unity is one of the mightiest of all human strengths. What humanity is capable of accomplishing with it is immeasurable. Even God himself said that with unity, nothing is impossible for mankind.
No wonder it was one of Christ's biggest deals. No wonder in his final prayer with his disciples, the longest one we have on record, his primary plea to his Father was the unity of all believers.
Today we begin a 5 week series taking a look at the unity factor and how important it is in what we are doing as a church family.
And how important is inside of you.
