History's Mightiest Day

Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” Do you believe this?”

Do you?

Admittedly, it is a whole lot to swallow. I dare say that few if any of us would believe it if someone told us that today someone died and came back from the dead days later.

Yet we say we believe in Jesus as resurrected.

Do we?

It’s an important question. Paul says that “if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.” (1 Cor 15:14)

This is a new way for me to come at it, but if it is true that our message and our faith would be useless without the resurrection, then I am all the more certain that the resurrection is for real. Why? Because I have seen the message we carry and the faith that it produces be so extremely useful in people’s lives.

Have you?

As we walk through the events of Resurrection Sunday with Jesus, and we encounter those who encountered him on that day, we will witness people having to discern then what we are still having to discern now.

Is Jesus raised from the dead? And if he is, then what does it mean for me?

Perhaps, like Thomas, you struggle to believe in the possibility that Jesus was actually and historically raised back to life. Perhaps, like Peter, you struggle to believe in the possibility that Jesus’ resurrection is powerful enough to raise you to life.

Either way, the Bible says that it has some very, very good news for you.
