The Finger of God

The finger of God is shown in scripture as responsible for God's detailed construction of the universe (Ps 8:3-4), God's guidance for man (Ex 31:18), God's deliverance for His people against their enemies (Ex 8:19), and God's authority over all spiritual principalities and demonic powers (Lk 11:20).

The finger of God is nothing to be trifled with.

There was one time where the finger of God showed up visibly. It is found in Daniel 5.

Evidently, the Babylonian King Belshazzar had finally flaunted his disregard of God enough that God thrust His hand through whatever it is that makes the stuff of His realm invisible to ours, and with His finger inscribed onto the wall of Belshazzar's throne room words of judgment on him.

What had Belshazzar done?

He failed to be a humble man.
He had decided to please himself rather than God.
He worshipped the false gods of money and power.
And he failed to honor God.

With His finger, He told Belshazzar that he had been measured by God's holy scales and found wanting.

Look at that list again, my friends.

Look again.

Who among us has not, or is not, living out these same sins? Who among us, in those same scales, are not also found wanting?

What hope is there for us, then, against the finger of God?

Today, we will look to the finger of Jesus Christ, for our answer.

Prepare to praise Him.
