Oneness With God
With all that there is to prayer...all of the different forms, content, questions, teachings, and stages...there is an ultimate point to it all.
Oneness with God.
If I could choose between the feeling of oneness with God and a powerful, impactful, mountain-moving prayer life, it would be a no brainer.
I would choose oneness.
When God does grant a request in prayer, what's more rewarding about it? The request granted, or the feeling that God was present threw the hearing and giving of it?
When a personal prayer time results in some secret, personal blessing between you and God, does our joy come from the secret blessing, or from the experience of God in it?
When a group gathers in the name of Christ and agrees on a request, and God moves to give that group what they ask, isn't at least part of the happiness coming from the idea that God actually showed up for our group?
When we intercede on behalf of another, since oftentimes the answers we want do not come quickly, what could possibly keep us going in that intercession if there was not some reward and blessing in knowing that we are, finally, aligned with the heart of God, one with Him in spirit and in our agenda?
Oneness with God is the point. When we want what God wants, when we work for what God is working for, when our hearts break over what God's heart breaks over, when our joy comes from what brings God joy, that's when all of Christ's promises about prayer make sense and come to pass.
Prayer moves a person to be one with God, and then that oneness with God gives that person a prayer life that moves Him.
