I had a haircut today. My haircut lady started a conversation, but I wasn't in the mood to talk. I delivered that message politely, but clearly, through my subtle (in)actions.
I guess I didn't make the most of that opportunity. Paul says that I should have. That's what Kingdom citizens do. They make the most of every opportunity. If we would all do this, we would soon discover that every day we could have Kingdom conversations with those in the world.
"Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone." (Colossians 4:5-6)
Christ is king of a group who engages those not in the group.
As Paul wraps up his teachings on Kingdom Do's and Don'ts for the followers of Christ at Colossi, he reminds them that they are being watched and listened to...and not just by Him.
Christ is after non-Christ followers. He wants them to have the best possible life. Christ-followers, too, are after non-Christ followers. We want them to have the best possible life, too. We want them to have the forgiveness Christ died for, the redemption that Christ was resurrected for, and the glory that He ascended for. In short, we want them to have the Kingdom.
When you submit your life to the humble and constant awareness of the people around you and God's desire for them, you will have found the life of Christ. The abundant life for you is found in the delivery of abundant life to others. No earthly pleasure or endeavor will ever match it.
The gospel is delivered to people through people. Christ's people deliver Christ. Kingdom people deliver the King's life.
Make the most of every opportunity.
