The Work of The Called

What must we do to do the works God requires?" they asked.

Jesus sighed. He knew they were looking for an outward formula to follow. He knew that their minds were keeping them from thinking with their hearts. He knew that it would take a miracle from God for them to move inward, where the Kingdom of God is, where they would find the means for life. So he answered them in a peculiar way...

"The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

You want to find life? You want to find the truth of the universe? You want to secure an eternity with God? You want to know what is required to save you from death? Belief. The work you must do to have God is to believe.

We must make no mistake; belief is work (anyone that tells you otherwise isn't practicing Christianity). Not a "wow, this is such a burdensome chore" sort of work, but a "my need for rescue and life is so real, and his promises are so great, that it is just plain hard to believe" sort of work.

Today we do the work of God. We work to believe in Jesus.

Do you believe in his cross? That you are forgiven? You are called to.

Do you believe in his resurrection? That you can live life to the full? You are called to.

Do you believe in his ascension? That you have access to the authority of Christ? You are called to.

And if you don't, then you are called to do the work of God.
