We were approached by friends once who were writing their will and wanted to talk to me and my wife about writing our names in as the ones who would take care of their kids if they were to tragically die.
"Whoa," we thought. We were honored, to be sure, but overwhelmed at the magnitude of the request. We questioned why they would consider us when they each had siblings and parents, who were qualified for the job, anxious to do it, and (not to mention) related to their kids by blood.
Our friends had nothing negative to say about their family. As a matter of fact, they looked at each other in a way that suggested they've talked extensively about that very thing and hadn't been able to put their finger on an answer.
After stuttering on incomplete thoughts, the mom just turned with tears and said, "You just think differently about everything when it's your kids you're dealing with."
Today, we are asking you to write down the names of men who you would entrust with raising your kids. Men who you would want your kids to be like when they grow up. Don't just think with your head, think with your heart. I know Paul was thinking of his "kids" when he told Timothy, "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others." (2 Tim. 2:2).
Look around. Who has God "qualified" to shepherd people? Who is like Christ? And think "differently" when you think of the answer- like it's your kids you're dealing with.
